Challenge vice ads says Boris

Shoppers must challenge newsagents who allow their windows to become advertising boards for prostitutes, the Mayor of London said yesterday.

Boris Johnson said people do not realise calling cards offering “massage services” are often directly linked with organised crime and violence.

He said the public must play their part in telling retailers the material is unacceptable.

Speaking at at an event to mark International Women’s Day at the Glaziers’ Hall at London Bridge, Mr Johnson called on Londoners to make a difference.

He said: “I think this is one of those areas where the public can have a huge influence.

“If people go in and put these calling cards under the noses of newsagents they will have an impact.

People do not understand the deep and intimate connection between a little card in a newsagent’s front window and organised crime in London.”
