Champion bids for third gold

Double Olympic champion Sarah Ayton aims to become the first British woman to win three successive Olympic sailing golds.

Ayton, 30, with Saskia Clark in a pedalo on the Serpentine Lake in London's Hyde Park, is one of the famed "three blondes in a boat" line-up which won gold in the Yngling competitions at the last two Olympics. But with the Yngling class scrapped from the London 2012 sailing competition, Ayton has turned her sights on winning a third Olympic title, this time in the two-person 470 event with Clark.

She said: "After thinking really hard about my campaign and experimenting with racing it was an easy decision.

"Teaming up with Saskia seemed the most natural route and we are already building up an understanding."

They were at a sponsorship launch by Volvo for British Olympic sailors.
