Amy Richardson’s staggering yet gradual weight loss has earned her the title of Slimming World’s Miss Slinky.

And she has earned a job as a PE teacher in her home town of Halifax, West Yorkshire – something she thought she would never have a chance to do before she dropped to around 11 stone (70kg).

Miss Richardson, who has recently got engaged, said: “I’ve always wanted to work in sport and, being overweight, it wasn’t something I could do. I struggled to get up two flights of stairs.

“My mum joined Slimming World and I decided it was time to see if it would work for me.

“If I hadn’t have lost the weight I don’t think anyone would have wanted to employ me as a PE teacher.

“Hopefully I am setting the right example now.”

She said she entered the competition because she wanted to “inspire” other people into losing weight.

It took her almost a decade to drop the dress sizes, giving birth to her first baby along the way.

But Miss Richardson said she was happy to “take the scenic route”.

“It has been a long journey but I have enjoyed it,” she said.

“I joined in 2005 and just recently have decided to set my target. I wanted to enjoy my life and wanted it to be part of my everyday life.

“Previously I was going out all the time, drinking, eating all the wrong sort of food. But Slimming World taught me how to enjoy food again.”

Miss Richardson picked up a £2,000 prize for winning Miss Slinky.
