Chance for adoration

The Adoration of the Magi, by Adolphe Monticelli, is hung ahead of the opening of the exhibition Essence of Beauty: 500 years of Italian Art, at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.

It has been described as “the finest civic collection in the UK” and now masterpieces from Glasgow’s collection of Italian paintings are about to be displayed together for the first time to mark the publication of a new scholarly catalogue of the entire collection.

Essence of Beauty: 500 years of Italian Art opens at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum today and runs until August 12.
