Chance to have say on flooding fight

PEOPLE living and working in the East Riding are being invited to a drop-in session to find out more about plans for managing flood risks over the next 50 to 100 years in the River Derwent catchment area.

Draft plans drawn up by the Environment Agency will be on show at the Feathers Hotel in Market Place, Pocklington, on Monday, March 1, from 2pm to 7pm. Agency staff will be on hand to discuss the issues and hear residents' views.

Flood risks in the area come from rivers and streams that drain into the Derwent, and the draft Catchment Flood Management Plan has been published for consultation.

Environment Agency consultation manager Rachel Bennett said: "We want people to be involved and understand what we are proposing as it will affect the area for many years to come. That's why we're holding this drop-in session to give people a chance to talk us, explore the issues and let us know what they think."

The session will include an exhibition and leaflets will be available to take away, along with information on how to contribute. The consultation closes on April 23.
