Chance to help shape area’s growth

People in Ilkley could get a chance to have more of a say about what goes on in their area.

Local people can now have a direct say in shaping development in the areas in which they live under the new Localism Act and Ilkley Parish Council has applied to Bradford Council to be designated a Neighbourhood Area with the aim of creating a neighbourhood plan, which will outline community priorities.

The parish council says its chief aim is to consult with key local interest groups and residents in putting together the plan which would ensure that housing needs would be met while at the same time protecting the area’s heritage.

The parish council has declared it “does not oppose development in principle but recognises that there are competing pressures which such activity will bring to infrastructure in the area.”

Public talks are underway about the plan and comments must be made by August 27. A copy of the application can be found at Ilkley Library. Comments can be made by emailing: [email protected]
