THE public are being given the chance to learn more about Yorkshire Water’s revamp of its Brownhill reservoir, near Huddersfield, as part of a multi-million pound scheme.

Brownhill is the third in a chain of four reservoirs in the Holmfirth area which are being modernised as part of the company's 60m maintenance project.

A drop-in session is being held on Wednesday next week at Hinchliffe Mill Junior School, in Holmbridge, where people will have the opportunity to learn more about the different stages of work, which will include replacing the existing overflow.

Work will begin on Monday while a second phase will start in November which will involve removing a number of trees on the reservoir embankment.

In the new year, the final phase of work, to replace the existing reservoir overflow, will begin and is expected to take about six months to complete.

It is not thought this work will have any impact on access routes around the site. However, a footpath over the crest of the reservoir will be temporarily closed.

John Bond, a member of Yorkshire Water’s community engagement team, said: “We hope that customers in the area will take this opportunity to come and find out about what we are doing.

“Not only will they be able to view the plans, but they will have the chance to ask members of the project team about the work.

“The work at Brownhill and at other reservoir sites across the region – many of which are more than a century old – will enable us to continue to safeguard the high quality water supply to the region for many years to come.”

The drop-in session will take place at Hinchliffe Mill Junior School on Wednesday between 4.30pm and 7pm. More about the scheme can be found at www.yorkshirewater.com /reservoirs
