Chance to shape the future of moorlands

A series of workshops is being planned by the two charities, which are working together as the Eastern Moors Partnership to look after two popular areas on the edge of Sheffield.

Staff aim to collect the views of local people on how the Eastern Moors, owned by the Peak Park Authority, and Sheffield Moors, owned by Sheffield Council, should develop.

From November 1, the Eastern Moors Estate, which covers 2,700 hectares of Clod Hall, Leash Fen, Ramsley, Big Moor and Totley Moss, will be managed by the partnership.

The Sheffield Moors is made up of around 900 hectares including Hathersage, Burbage and Houndkirk Moors, which are the subject of a tenancy agreement until September 2011.

Danny Udall, of the Eastern Moors Partnership, said: "We're committed to managing this land in such a way that it provides amazing benefits for people and the environment. We know they are already loved by thousands and thousands of people who live locally, or who visit the area.

Those people now have the opportunity to play a huge part in shaping how these areas develop over the years."

Consultation events will be held on July 27 in Hathersage, July 28 in Sheffield city centre, and August 3, 5 and 10 in Totley, a Sheffield suburb on the edge of the moors.

A special day workshop will be held on September 11 at the Peak Park-owned Losehill Hall, Castleton, to feed back about the outcomes of the consultation.
