Chaos as trains between Yorkshire and London suspended

RAIL commuters faced travel chaos this afternoon after Network Rail suspended services between Yorkshire and London because of “overhead wire problems”.

All trains between Peterborough and Grantham were halted, meaning no services on the east coast main line between the capital and Leeds, York and Doncaster could run.

Passengers were warned to expect delays of at least two hours - doubling their journey time.

East Coast advised passengers to travel “only where absolutely necessary”. It said today’s tickets would remain valid tomorrow,

Network Rail said passengers from Yorkshire could travel to Manchester and then pick up a Virgin Trains service to Euston.

Passengers using Grand Central services were also affected, and First Hull Trains advised passengers not to travel.

Network Rail said the disruption would continue for the rest of the day.
