Chapel conversion is praised

NORTH Yorkshire's Mulgrave Estate is celebrating after landing a prestigious award for its conversion of a disused chapel.

The estate, which manages 15,000-acres of land and property from its base near Sandsend, won the North York Moors National Park Authority's inaugural Design Award for Best New Dwelling.

The judges praised the estate's approach to work at the former chapel and cottage at Dunsley. The Victorian building served as an outreach Church of England chapel of St Margaret's Church as Aislaby.

John Hoyes, Mulgrave's Resident Land Agent, said. "We were particularly proud that the judges recognised the measures we took to ensure this was a sensitive transformation of a very special old building, bringing it back into use."
