Charity looks to knitters for boost

AGE Concern East Riding is appealing to knitters to help raise funds to keep older people warm this winter.

The charity has teamed up with Innocent, Sainsbury and Boots to launch the 2010 Big Knit campaign. In the East Riding knitters are aiming to make 5,000 little hats which will sit on Innocent Smoothie bottles. Every one sold yields 25p towards winter warmth projects.

Sample patterns are available from Age Concern's offices at 19 North Bar Within, Beverley, HU17 8DG, by sending a stamped addressed envelope, calling in at Age UK shops in Bridlington, Goole, Driffield, Pocklington, Anlaby and Cottingham or online at www.innocentdrinks.com/thebigknit

The deadline is October but people are being encouraged to send theirs in by August 16.
