Charity memorial to follow tragedy

A charitable trust has been launched in memory of businessman Matthew Good who died while running a half marathon for charity.

Mr Good, 32, former joint managing director of the John Good Group, one of Yorkshire’s oldest family-owned businesses, collapsed while taking part in the Humber Bridge Half Marathon in soaring temperatures in June. A percentage of profits from John Good & Sons will go into the foundation, which will hold fundraising events throughout the year.

One initial focus will be research and education into Sport Induced Heat Stroke.

Alan Platt, the managing director of John Good Shipping, said: “Matt was dedicated to the family business, and everyone who works in it.

“We had begun setting up a charitable trust at the start of 2011, and Matt had been heavily involved in this.

“Following his death, it was fitting to name the foundation after him.

“The Matthew Good Foundation will embody his principles, values and commitment to our staff.”

The company was founded in Hull in 1833 and is still under the ownership of the Good family.
