Charity offers reward after cat found mutilated in West Yorkshire

A CHARITY has offered a £1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals who tortured and mutilated a tabby cat in West Yorkshire.

The six year-old cat Ziya disappeared from her home in the King's Mill Lane area of Newsome, near Huddersfield, and returned three days later with fur missing from her back, part of her right ear torn off and some teeth missing.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Foundation (PETA) said Ziya had had acid or a hot liquid thrown over her, burning her fur and skin.

PETA said the attack was the latest in a spate on animals in West Yorkshire, including an incident in Wakefield where a cat was hanged and shot.

Spokeswoman Suzanne Barnard said: "Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whoever is available to them, human or non-human

"It is imperative that any community faced with such horrific animal abuse take measures to find the culprit or culprits and stop the violence."

The organisation has urged residents to keep an eye on their animals and to keep them indoors.
