Charity pays tribute to ‘special boy’ after he loses cancer fight

BRAVE Jamie Inglis has lost his battle against childhood cancer, his family confirmed last night.

The seven-year-old of Kelfield, York, lost his long battle against neuroblastoma on Tuesday in hospital in Tubingen, Germany, where the youngster was being treated, with his parents by his side.

Jamie’s mother, Vicky, said: “We have been truly blessed to bring such an amazing child into this world.

“Jamie fought with such dignity and to that end we owed him dignity, at the very least.

“We have nothing but complete admiration and respect for everyone involved in Jamie’s care since we arrived here in Germany. The last two months have been the most difficult for Jamie and everyone involved but we have all done everything we can.

“The pain of losing Jamie is horrendous but no more suffering for our beautiful boy.”

Jamie had been fighting the aggressive childhood cancer since 2009. He beat the disease once but last year, the cancer came back.

His family twice had to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for treatment overseas as the care he needed was not available in the UK.

His parents, John and Vicky, launched a fundraising appeal with Neuroblastoma Alliance UK.

Alison Moy, Neuroblastoma Alliance’s chief executive, said: “Everyone at Neuroblastoma Alliance UK was devastated to hear the sad news about Jamie and our thoughts are with his parents John and Vicky.

“We have worked closely with Jamie and his family for a long time and we will be helping Jamie’s family through this awful time.

“Jamie was such a special boy, full of fun and laughter. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and by his many supporters, who fundraised tirelessly to get Jamie the treatment he needed,” she added.

Jamie’s appeal was raising funds to cover his treatment costs in Germany.

After these costs, any remaining money will go to help other children with neuroblastoma, either through supporting other children’s appeals, or by funding research, or raising awareness of the cancer.
