A performance of a 300-year-old Hindu epic left Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall engrossed with its lavish costumes and the intensity of the Indian actors.

Staged inside a theatre and folklore museum in the southern city of Kochi, the royal couple were treated to the brief scene of Prince Jayanta – heir to the kingdom of heaven – battling the female demon Lalitha. At the end of the show Charles met the actors and told them: “I loved it, I loved it – it was too short.”
