Cheap eating with council cookbook

A NORTH Yorkshire council has produced a new cookbook for residents to be able to eat affordably during the economic storm.

Richmondshire District Council has printed the book of recipes from Coun Linda Curran, which she compiled after a district-wide appeal for help for how to prepare cheap meals.

The book, which contains recipes including Savoury Surprise, Five-Layer Pie and Bean Curry, will be available at a special surgery to help support Richmond residents through the recession next week.

Coun Curran said: “The financial crisis hasn’t gone away and I really wanted to give some good information to people about what they can do.

“I remember when I was first married we didn’t have a lot of money and we would look for things to eat that were cheap and cheerful.

“So I decided to start asking people what they cooked when it came to the end of the week and money was tight.

“There are all sorts of recipes in there from ones people have given me to ones I cook myself.”

The surgery event takes place at Richmond Town Hall on October 12 from 6.30pm.
