THERE will be market stalls, demonstrations, tastings and a chance to step back in time at this year’s York Food and Drink festival.

The annual festival will run for 10 days through September and will showcase all that is best of Yorkshire Food and Drink.

Each day of the festival will include up to 100 market stalls with a huge range of products including meat, cheese, chocolate, beer, wine, and also street food stalls for those wanting something to eat while browsing.

This year the city is marking 800 years since the city was granted a Royal Charter by King John in 1212, and the celebrations will also include special events themed around the history of food and drink, including tours of the Georgian kitchen of the Mansion House.

There will also be a number of evening events including beer tasting and residents will
even open their homes to give visitors the chance to enjoy real Yorkshire cooking in the heart of York.

Coun Sonja Crisp, York Council’s member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “There will be something for everyone – including children, who can learn about pasta making, cheese making, cow milking and more with a specially designed programme for young people.”

The festival will run from Friday until September 30.
