Childlessness increases in UK
Women in their 40s are almost twice as likely to be childless as their mothers' generation, new figures have revealed.
One in five women born in 1964 is childless compared to aboutone in eight of those born in 1937, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.
On average, women born in 1964 who have completed their families have 1.9 children compared to 2.4 for those born in 1937, but one in 10 women born in 1964 had four or more children, compared with 19 per cent of those born in 1937.
