Children lighten up dark underpass

CHILDREN are proving there can be light at the end of the tunnel for drab public spaces by decorating an underpass in their East Riding village.

Youngsters in Long Riston are transforming the walkway under the A165 with a bright mural.

The young artists began their colourful project yesterday. The artwork will be preserved when East Riding Council staff apply a coat of sealant tomorrow.

The underpass will then officially be reopened by Beverley and Holderness Conservative MP Graham Stuart at 2pm next Friday, June 11.

"This underpass needed to be brightened up and the work being done by these young people should do just that," said Mr Stuart.

"This is a great project which should help bring the community together and I am delighted to be able to perform the opening ceremony."
