Children were angels says aunt, as police arrest second man over Bradford fire

THE aunt of two young children who died in a house fire in Bradford earlier this week today made an emotional plea for information.

Alina Shah, 10, and her eight-year-old brother Aman were trapped on Tuesday in the fire at Hendford Drive, Pollard Park, which police believe was started deliberately.

A 21-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning and quizzed by police in connection with the fire.

Their mother, 30-year-old Irum Shah, is thought to have jumped from a window to escape and suffered "life-threatening" injuries in what firefighters called an "extremely severe fire". She remains critically ill in hospital with severe burns

Today the children's aunt Nadia Naqui faced the media to urge anyone "who can bring justice for our children" to come forward.

She described the children as "angels" and said "their smile will be with us forever."

Mrs Naqui, 28, said Aman had aspired to be a footballer.

"They were bright, talented and "really good people," she said.

Detective Superintendent Bill Shackleton, who is leading the investigation, said the children died as a result of the inhalation of fumes from the fire.

He said an 18-year-old Bradford man had now been arrested and was being questioned along with the 21-year-old. They are both being held on suspicion of murder.
