Children’s favourite comes to woodland

Children’s favourite picture book character the Gruffalo has arrived in North Yorkshire woodland, just in time for the Easter break.

A 7ft-tall wooden sculpture of the friendly, furry creature is ready to greet visitors to Dalby Forest, Scarborough to mark the 15th anniversary of the award-winning tale.

And The Yorkshire Post is encouraging readers to take a trip enjoy greenery in the great outdoors as it showcases the best tourist attractions in the region.

Yorkshire Draws is aiming to inspire families to soak up the very best places to visit to ensure quality time means exactly that.

Tanya Rex, of the Yorkshire Forest District, said: “There is no better way to celebrate The Gruffalo than within the deep, dark woods and forests that he calls home.

“The Gruffalo is a national treasure and so are our forests and this partnership will really help to bring the story to life and celebrate the anniversary in true Gruffalo style.

“Visitors can join Mouse on his adventure and explore Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning tale through an official activity trail. Characters from the stories will lead children through the trees with adventure and intrigue, learning about woods and forests as they go.”

The Gruffalo sculpture is one of 15 which has been individually-carved in a secret woodland location out of three-ton pieces of timber from Forestry Commission sites.
