Chinese pair hunted in money laundering probe

TWO Chinese suspected money launderers with links to Sheffield and Hull were being hunted by police today.

Kwang Gu, 24, and Lizhu Ren, 27, disappeared and failed to answer bail after being arrested in London last year.

The pair were held after officers discovered them carrying a bag full of cash at Alperton Tube station in north west London.

Subsequent inquiries revealed they had around 500,000 in their bank accounts but could not explain where the money came from.

Detective Constable Eloise Lock, by British Transport Police (BTP), said they failed to answer bail last month.

She said: "We arrested Gu and Ren on August 13 last year at Alperton Tube station with a quantity of money.

"Since then they have answered bail on two occasions but have now gone missing.

"The two are being investigated on suspicion of being involved in money laundering to the tune of at least 500,000.

"I am appealing for anyone who knows where the pair may be to get in touch."

Police said Gu and Ren have connections in south east London, particularly the Elephant and Castle and Lewisham areas.

They also have links to Glasgow, Hull, Sheffield, Cardiff and Surrey.

Anyone with any information about their whereabouts should call police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
