Choir's new president is star of 60s

SIXTIES pop icon Dave Berry, best known for classic track The Crying Game, has taken over as the new president of a South Yorkshire male voice choir.

Berry, who has been touring the UK and only just returned to his home in Sheffield, will be joining members of Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir for the first time at their rehearsal on Monday, June 7, before moving on to a nearby pub for more singing.

Peter Goodman, from the group, said: "This will be an exciting night for the choir, who are winners of many national and international honours."

Established in 1934, Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir has won a huge clutch of awards over the years, including being named champions of the National Male Voice Championships of Great Britain in 1997 and 1999.

Throughout this spring, Berry has been touring with the "Solid Silver 60s Show", which has included dates at Leeds Grand Theatre and Halifax Victoria Theatre.

The tour saw the Woodhouse-born singer performing alongside Mike Pender from The Searchers, Peter Sarstedt, Brian Poole from The Tremeloes, Vanity Fare, the Swinging Blue Jeans and The Troggs.
