Christmas tree gift for British troops

And one group of soldiers in Afghanistan are not missing out this year, thanks to a gift of a surprise Christmas tree from their Danish counterparts.

The 20ft tree was given to members of 2 Close Support Logistics Regiment (CSLR), based in Camp Bastion – which organises the movement of equipment and stores from and to bases outside Camp Bastion – alongside another smaller tree, as a present from the Danish soldiers they work with on a day-to-day basis.

Danish troops have Christmas trees flown into Afghanistan as a tradition each year, and this year decided to bring some festive cheer to British troops by donating two of their trees, along with decorations.

Captain Alex Nicholas, operations officer of 45 Squadron, part of CSLR, said: “It’s certainly the first time I have ever seen a Christmas tree in Afghanistan.”
