Christmas without cliches promised

A RANGE of performance pieces taking an alternative view of Chritsmas will be presented at the December Scratch@Fruit event.

The now-regular script-in-hand performances of new writing for the stage takes place at Fruit, on Humber Street on December 13.

The evening – christened “alt.Christmas” by organisers – will contain excerpts and stand alone pieces by at least six writers.

Hull-born playwright Dave Windass, who curates the evening, said: “We’ve encouraged writers to take a different look at the festive season and to try and get away from all those hackneyed, cliched, Christmas-fueled observations that fill stages, screens and airwaves at this time of year.

“That said, none of us is Scrooge so I’m optimistic that we’ll have an evening of fun and entertainment and there’s a good chance we’ll be giving away mince pies too.”

The evening is produced by Ensemble 52, the venue’s resident theatre company. Doors open at 7pm with the first performance at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced at £3, are available on the door and also in advance from www.fruitspace.co.uk (booking fee applies).
