Church to close with flower and harvest festival

A CHURCH which has proved costly to run is to open its doors for the last time next month.

Trinity Methodist Church, at the junction of Boothferry Road and Clifton Gardens, has faced high running costs and the church council has decided it is time to move on.

As yet no decision has been taken about the future of the old church building but members of the congregation will move into the community rooms at the back of the church.

To mark the closure of the old building people are being given a chance to take a look around the building for a final time at a celebration weekend on September 7 and 8.

The weekend will incorporate a flower festival and a harvest festival entitled: Celebrating Changing Times.

The church will be open for viewing both days from 11am-4pm and among the flowers and harvest arrangements displays will include bygone memorabilia. Entrance to the church costs £2 which also includes light refreshments.

Eileen Clarkson, church secretary, said yesterday: “Many Goole residents, and others from the surrounding area, will have fond memories of family occasions being held there.

“Whatever the reason Trinity holds special memories and that is why we are giving everyone an opportunity to come into the church for the last time,” she added.
