Church-goer seriously injured in car crash as he made his way home

An 89-year-old man who was on his way home from church in North Yorkshire was seriously injured in a car accident yesterday.

He was driving a Vauxhall Polo on the the A6108 at Barracks Bank when it was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van at around 3.40pm.

The pensioner, who was heading from the service in Keld in Swaledale back to his home near Darlington was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries while the van driver was taken to James Cook Hospital by road ambulance. They are both still in hospital.

The road was closed until 8pm while police carried out investigations and now they are appealing to anyone who saw either of the vehicles before the collision, anyone who saw a silver Polo travelling from Keld to Scotch Corner and noticed the manner of driving to contact them and also to anyone who was at the church service in Keld to contact them.
