Church turns back clock for celebration
Little-known festive songs from the medieval period were brought to life with a concert at the city’s oldest surviving church to mark the 800th anniversary of York being granted a Royal charter.
The day of song was set to music by the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prize-winning composer Stef Conner and featured 13th century lyrics.

Hide AdA musical ensemble called Lare Canteras also performed pieces spanning the city’s long history from the Dark Ages to the present day, including an Anglo-Saxon hymn and an Old Norse winter poem.
