Churchgoers believe in green investments

The UK’s churches must back up concerns over climate change by withdrawing investments from fossil fuel companies, campaigners have urged.

The Christian community should also lead a national debate on the ethics of investing in fossil fuels, and support the development of clean power alternatives through their investments, campaign group “Operation Noah” said.

A survey of 1,520 churchgoers of all denominations conducted to mark the launch of the campaign revealed that more than nine
out of 10 believe churches should invest ethically, but most do not see climate change as a major issue.

But almost two-thirds of Anglicans polled (63 per cent) believe the Church of England should still address such concerns.
