Cigarettes found hidden inside concrete

More than 1m cigarettes have been found inside concrete blocks at Immingham docks.

UK Border Agency officers uncovered the haul last Wednesday as they were checking lorries arriving from the continent.

The officials became suspicious and used sledgehammers to break open the blocks, revealing the Chinese-made cigarettes hidden inside.

The lorry has been seized and the owners may now be liable to a fine or even have the lorry confiscated.

Inquiries are continuing into the illegal shipment of cigarettes.

Andy Lumb, Assistant Director of the UK Border Agency, welcomed the seizure, and said: "This is an excellent result and shows the dedication of our officers that help to make our border controls at ports so robust."
