Cinema treat for opera fans

Opera fans in Hull will get a chance to watch exclusive footage from the Glyndebourne Festival next week as Vue cinema in Princes Quay shopping centre shows Verdi's opera Falstaff at 2pm on Monday, and at 6.15pm the following day.

The venue is one of 16 across the country that has been chosen for the screening, and will be followed by nine other films of classical performances of some of the UK's favourite operas, ballets and theatre productions this year. Audiences will see a star cast recorded at last year's festival, which is held annually in East Sussex.

It will the third classical performance to have been screened at Vue cinemas this year.

Mark De Quervain, sales and marketing director at Vue Entertainment, said: "These alternative screenings continue our commitment to offering a wide choice to our customers.

"Similar screenings last year were really well attended so we're pleased to be able to build on that and offer a broader spectrum of performances for 2010."
