Cities link up as they celebrate culture titles

Hull, which will be City of Culture in 2017, is partnering with Aarhus in Denmark, which is European Capital of Culture, the same year.

Hull 2017 Chief Executive, Martin Green, said: “Our ambition for Hull’s year as UK City of Culture is international in scale and this collaboration with the European Capital of Culture is the perfect place to begin that work.

“Whilst Hull and Aarhus have their own distinct visions for 2017, both believe in the power of culture to transform people and place and are committed to delivering an artistically significant, world-class programme that will make 2017 a year to remember.

“We hope it will also create a legacy of cultural links and exchanges that will continue well beyond 2017, building on Hull’s historic links with its European neighbours.”

Rebecca Matthews, Chief Executive of the Aarhus 2017 Foundation said: “The theme of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 is ‘Let’s Rethink’.

“This is an invitation to everyone to join our movement and use art and culture as a catalyst to rethink solutions to the challenges we as a society face today.

“So, it is important that we have cross-collaborations - not only regionally and nationally, but also globally.

“This makes Hull 2017 a very strong and exciting partner for us.”
