A SHEFFIELD charity which helps vulnerable and socially excluded people back into employment is planning to expand its work this year.

The Aspire organisation is now looking for backers to help make its plans a reality.

It is based in Hillsborough and finances its work through a range of projects, such as a packing and mailing service which has attracted the support of organisations including law firm Irwin Mitchell and Sheffield Hallam University.

It also has a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) service, which can be used at its clients’ premises.

The organisation is hoping other members of the business community will see the benefits of working with them.

“What we would really like is not only more contracts for our existing services but also some extra financial support,” said Aspire manager Dave Metcalfe.

“We need to bring in more clients but to do that we do need a more secure operational base.

“What we are looking for is businesses or individuals who do not expect a vast or instant return on their investment but who do have a firm policy of community responsibility. It’s about putting something back into the neighbourhood in the long term and helping people who still have a lot to offer with the right support and encouragement.”

The charity is also looking for two people to join the Aspire board. “We know that everybody’s time is precious but the rewards of working with an organisation like Aspire can be great,” said Mr Metcalfe.

“Because we are currently looking at new ways of supporting and growing the company we would really like to hear from people with a good business background.

“I’d be particularly keen to hear from anybody with experience of networking circles as we are keen to get the Aspire name even better known in the wider business community.”
