City church organises first concert season

THE impressive interior of a Leeds inner-city church is to reverberate to the sounds of a 70-strong choir in a venture bringing music to the community more regularly.

A programme of six events at St Hilda’s Church in Cross Green begins tomorrow when the renowned Yorkshire vocal quartet, Quodlibet, will perform works by Felix Mendelssohn and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The season lasts until September when the 70-strong Leeds choir Mixed Voices will sing a programme of light, popular music, on a date yet to be fixed.

St Hilda’s has held one-off concerts in the past but an entire season of music is new.

The other events include an organ recital on May 19 by Christopher Newton, a concert by the York Rose Singers on June 16 and songs by Matthew Lazenby and Fiona Ross on July 1. Details have been posted online at www.sainthildasleeds.co.uk.
