City fly-tippers pay clean-up costs

A MAN caught tipping rubbish from wheelie bins onto land in Hull has been ordered to pay more than £1,400.

Philip Bradley, of Aberdovey Close, was seen dumping the rubbish on land in Cumbrian Way, North Bransholme. He failed to appear at court and was found guilty of fly-tipping and failing to co-operate with council inquiries in his absence.

Bradley was fined £525 for each offence, charged £336 clean-up costs and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

Coun John Hewitt, city council portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and families, said “This council has one of the best waste disposal and recycling services in the country.

“There is absolutely no excuse for fly-tipping and as a council we are determined to crackdown on the perpetrators. Our message is we will not tolerate this crime and will always prosecute until we stamp it out for good.”

In a separate case, Beryl Martin, 52, of Ferndale, was prosecuted when waste linked to her was found dumped at the end of the terrace where she lives.

She was fined £90 and ordered to pay £200 clean-up costs.
