City landmark derelict hotel goes up for sale

Neighbours of the Hallam Towers site, in leafy Fulwood, have long been complaining of vandalism and intruders at the empty hotel, which closed down almost a decade ago.

Yesterday, the Sheffield residential development office of Knight Frank said it was launching the “landmark 1960s Sheffield building to the national property market”.

The site has detailed planning consent for a housing development.

The department head for Yorkshire residential development at Knight Frank, Tearle Phelan, said: “Knight Frank has been formally appointed by Hallam Grange Ltd to market the former Hallam Tower, in Fulwood, with the benefit of the existing planning consent.

“The 2007 collapse of the residential market brought sales of land with residential development potential to a standstill across the UK, forcing many residential development schemes to be mothballed.”

He added: “Dependant on interest levels, it is our client’s interest to agree a sale without delay, so that the site can finally be released for much-needed new housing.”
