City landmark goes gold for Leeds Olympic hero Paul Bennett

Civic Hall will be lit up gold tomorrow night to celebrate the Olympic victory of Leeds rower Paul Bennett and the men's eight rowing team.

City council leader Judith Blake said: “Congratulations to Paul Bennett from Leeds for winning Olympic gold in the men’s eight rowing.

“Following on from being world champions for the last two years, it was fantastic to see Paul and his teammates prove again they are best in the world in the event delivering more golden success for our city and Team GB.

“Everyone in Leeds is delighted for Paul and we are very proud of his wonderful achievement.”

Paul was raised in Roundhay in Leeds, where his parents still live, and attended Roundhay School.
