City motorists face roadwork delays

MOTORISTS in north Sheffield should expect delays and disruption from later this month as major roadworks begin on a busy stretch of road in Ecclesfield.

The first phase of the work, which involves repairing the road at the junction of The Common and Mill Road, will begin on Monday, January 17. From that date Mill Road will be closed and temporary traffic lights will be in place.

In the second phase of roadworks The Common, between Mill Road and Church Street, will be one way only and traffic heading out of the city will be diverted.

During the third phase of the work, The Common will be one way only between Morrisons and Mill Road. Traffic heading out of Sheffield will be diverted via St Michael's Road and High Street.

A spokesman for Sheffield Council said: "It is expected that the overall programme of work will take 16 weeks, but this is dependent on the weather.

"Access will be maintained to all properties, although the route to access individual properties will depend on which part of the scheme is in operation.

"The scheme involves essential repair work and has been planned to minimise any disruption."
