City museum bids to lure artist who knows her stuff

One of the country’s top taxidermists – dubbed Britain’s hottest bird stuffer – could be coming to the Yorkshire Museum.

The York museum is hoping Polly Morgan, whose taxidermy-inspired works have been collected by Kate Moss, will come to give a new look to its collection of stuffed animals and birds.

It is one of many museums taking part in Culture 24’s Connect 10 project which is giving exhibitors across the country the chance to have an evening with a contemporary artist.

A vote to decide who will host the artist will be held on March 5 and if the Yorkshire Museum is successful, the event will take place on May 18.

Project manager Aisha Ali-Sutcliffe said: “Taxidermy is a subject that always creates debate. At the moment it is undergoing something of resurgence, with people like Polly Morgan creating works for high- profile celebrities like Kate Moss.

“We want Polly to come to the Yorkshire Museum to give a demonstration and talk about the inspiration for her work which combines taxidermy with contemporary art. Is it art, science or both?”

All taxidermy that is created by the museum involves animals that have died naturally, been donated by vets or been run over accidentally.
