City seeks Olympic torchbearers

TIME is running out for people to nominate Hull’s London 2012 Olympics torchbearers.

People have until Wednesday to propose someone “truly inspirational” for a chance to shine during the torch relay, which is due to come to Hull on June 18 next year.

The flame, an enduring symbol of the Games, will also visit York, Leeds, Sheffield, and Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire during an 8,000-mile, 70-day trip around the UK before going to London for the opening ceremony on July 27.

Hull Council’s portfolio holder with responsibility for sport Councillor Terry Geraghty, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people of Hull to get into the Olympic spirit and be part of the London 2012 Olympic torch relay.

“It gives local people the chance to do an extraordinary thing,” he added.
