People in Bradford are facing changes to the way they recycle their waste.

It is hoped they will make it easier for people to care for the environment, says Bradford Council.

From this week, householders can recycle all their paper and cardboard in one council container instead of having to remove brown card and envelopes. Following a trial, brown cardboard and envelopes can now be deposited in the grey paper recycling bins and in the blue bags used in rural areas.

Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment and sustainability, said: “This change in policy will mean that householders will find it more convenient to recycle their paper and card.

“In the drive to increase our overall rates of recycling in the district and stop unnecessary waste going to landfill, this is a major step forward.”

The council has, this week, started distributing new recycle collection date stickers showing the collection dates for 2011 to 2013. In the next few weeks the stickers and a letter with details about brown cardboard recycling will be delivered to all households in the district.
