City’s first free music festival to feature around 300 acts

AROUND 300 acts have been lined up for Hull’s first free music festival.

Based in seven pubs and bars – and 700-year-old Holy Trinity Church – Hull Trinity Music Festival aims to bring a buzz to the Old Town over the weekend of September 30 and October 1 and 2. Some performers will be local, other from as far away as Tasmania.

The licensees have been working with the team behind the hugely popular Springboard Festival, which attracted 15,000 people to Cottingham this year. Launched at a Cottingham pub six years ago, Springboard has developed into one of the biggest music festivals in the region.

The Hull Trinity festival begins at 2.30pm on the Friday at the Kings Bar and Lounge, whose manager Allen Slinger came up with the idea. “I was working at the Duke of Cumberland in Cottingham during last year’s Springboard Festival,” he said. “And no disrespect to Cottingham – because it’s a fantastic event – but I just wondered why Hull couldn’t do the same. If we can get half the number Cottingham had we will count it as a success as it’s the first year.”

Hull Business Improvement District has given £2,000 to help to market the festival, which will take place at venues including Lizard Lounge, the Corn Exchange and Jazz.
