City's movie museum gets lost in translation

A TRAVEL guide has wrongly placed one of Yorkshire's most popular visitor attractions in a moorland village known for its brass band and mills.

As most Yorkshire folk know, the National Media Museum is in the centre of Bradford and has been since it opened, back in 1983, as the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

But a 3.99 pocket guide book to Leeds and the surrounding area has mistakenly placed the media museum in Queensbury, which is five miles from Bradford in the direction of Halifax.

Queensbury cannot boast that it has a media museum but is noted for being around 1,000ft above sea level, making it one of the highest villages in England.

It is also home of the famous Black Dyke Band.

A spokesperson for publisher Thomas Cook UK & Ireland apologised for the error.

"We're sorry for any confusion caused by the fact our newly published guide to Leeds incorrectly states that the National Media Museum in Bradford is in Queensbury. This will be corrected in the next edition."

The company has been publishing travel guides for 135 years.
