Clampdown on off-road bikes

NUISANCE and illegal off-road motorcycles are the target of a county-wide operation being mounted by South Yorkshire Police during the school summer holidays.

Four officers from the force's dedicated motor-

cycle wing have been assigned to work on the operation every day for eight weeks and are aiming to act as a "visual deterrent".

They are also working covertly using off-road motorcycles owned by the force to catch offenders in the act and have seized ten motorbikes in the first three weeks of the operation.

South Yorkshire's head of roads policing, Chief Inspector Stuart Walne said: "We know where these offences are taking place and are working proactively in these areas with good results.

"These offences have an adverse effect on people's quality of life and cause disruption to law-abiding people looking to enjoy our open spaces legally."
