Clash over bed and breakfast plans

RESIDENTS in a leafy part of Rotherham are objecting to plans by one of their neighbours to convert his swimming pool into a new bed and breakfast business.

Robert Smith, who lives in Hall Farm Close, has submitted plans which would see the pool area converted into an entrance hall, kitchen, lounge and three bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Externally, there would be little change to the building.

However, neighbours who live close to the detached property, at the head of a cul-de-sac, say the new business would create an unacceptable increase in traffic on a quiet road.

Six letters of objection have been submitted to Rotherham Council in relation to the plans, which are set to be decided by councillors at a committee meeting today.

Opponents say that guests leaving the bed and breakfast would have poor visibility when entering Hall Farm Close, which could cause accidents. They also say the cul-de-sac is too narrow and the development could result in "nuisance and danger".

However, Rotherham Council's town planners have advised that planning consent should be granted as car parking would be sufficient within the "large residential plot".
