Class act from gold medal hero

The cycling ace from Rawdon also brought his gold medals to show youngsters at Ireland Wood Primary in Holt Park in Leeds yesterday.

The school is well resourced for children with disabilities, many of whom have cerebral palsy like Mr Stone.

Ten-year-old pupil Solomon Londsale, who has the condition, said meeting the local sporting hero had inspired him to aim for Paralympic cycling glory.

He added: “I’m very proud of him.”

The sports star was awarded the MBE after winning two golds at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. He went on to do the double again in the road race and time trial events at London 2012. Picture: James Hardisty.
