Class supervisor at school for scandal admits sex with girl of 15

A CLASS supervisor at a Yorkshire school where a series of staff members have admitted relationships with students pleaded guilty today to having under-age sex with a 15-year-old pupil.

Christopher Reen is the fifth member of staff at Headlands School in Bridlington to have faced the courts in recent years in relation to inappropriate sexual conduct.

Reen, 32, of Carlton Street, Bridlington, was due to go trial for a second time today at Hull Crown Court.

But in a last-minute change of plea, he admitted six counts of sexual activity with a child under 16.

A jury failed to reach a verdict when Reen went on trial in September last year.

During the three-day trial, the jury heard that Reen started work as a cover supervisor at the school in June 2008 and replaced a woman whose case was still going through the courts.

The court heard that Reen was given a full induction when he began his job in which the deputy headteacher warned him about the previous problem at the school.

But the jury was told the married father began the relationship just weeks later after the girl applied to join a martial arts club run by Reen, which was not connected to the school.

The prosecution said the defendant sent the Year 10 pupil an unsolicited text message and the affair soon developed into a full sexual relationship.

The jury was told that the defendant had sex with the girl at his home when his wife was away but the pair normally met up at the martial arts club.

Police found evidence of 800 text messages or calls to the girl from Reen's mobile, between July 12 and October 8 2008, and on one occasion he sent the teenager a photograph of his genitals, the court heard.

Reen, who was 30 at the time, did not deny having a full sexual relationship with the girl but the jury heard he claimed he did not know she was under-age.

He also denied the girl had filled in a form for the martial arts club with her date of birth or that they had a conversation about her age.

Reen had already pleaded guilty to an offence of sexual activity with a child under 18 while in a position of trust.

He will be sentenced on March 12.
