Classic vehicles display pulls in visitors by the hundred

The grounds of an historic castle provided the perfect setting for an impressive display of hundreds of classic motors.

Hundreds of people visited the 28th Yorkshire Classic Car and Bike show at Ripley Castle, near Harrogate, yesterday.

And with everything from minis to heavy lorries, vintage vehicle fans were not left disappointed.

Organiser Mark Woodward said: “We had about 400 classic cars, bikes and trucks, as well as trade stands, an auto jumble and a display arena with commentary and judging.

“There was a big display of vintage Land Rovers and a number of owners’ clubs attended, including Mercedes Benz and Ford Anglia.”

Classic cars spanned from the 1930s to the 1990s and sparkling sports cars, including vintage Jaguars, proved popular with visitors.

Mr Woodward said: “It is the most spectacular setting to host a classic car show, especially as it so full of history and intrigue.

“Classic cars and historic houses are a really good mix.

“We usually get a really good crowd because people come to see the cars and the castle and its grounds as well. It’s a well established event which has a good regular following from visitors and exhibitors. It definitely gets more popular each year.”

Ripley Castle is owned by the Ingilby family, who have lived at the castle for over 700 years.
