Claudia father accepts apology

The father of missing chef Claudia Lawrence said he accepted an apology from the mother of an internet hoaxer who pretended to be his daughter.

Peter Lawrence, 63, of Slingsby, North Yorkshire, said posting the bogus message was a "terrible thing to do" but the subsequent action gave him some comfort.

The apology, printed in the Oxford Mail newspaper, named the hoaxer as Matthew Biel, 18, from Didcot, Oxfordshire, and included a message from his mother saying the whole family was "sickened" by his actions.

Mrs Biel told the newspaper: "I can't even imagine what Claudia's family are going through and I would like to make a heartfelt apology to them."
