Claudia police in new poster campaign

A NEW poster campaign is being launched by police in an attempt to generate new leads in the search for missing Claudia Lawrence.

North Yorkshire Police announced yesterday that new posters are being put on the force's vehicles in the missing woman's home city of York.

An initial poster campaign was launched a month after the 35-year-old York University chef vanished in March last year, but detectives involved in the murder investigation are hoping the new publicity drive will bring in fresh information.

A police spokeswoman said: "The posters serve as a reminder that someone, somewhere has that vital piece of information which will lead us to solving Claudia's disappearance.

"The investigation remains active and North Yorkshire Police will continue to pursue positive lines of inquiry until those responsible are brought to justice."

The new posters are initially being put on about 20 vehicles, although more will be added.

The Yorkshire Post revealed on Monday that the investigation team had overhauled an archiving system to meet the recommendations drawn up in an independent inquiry. The National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) was commissioned by North Yorkshire Police in May to carry out a second review of how the inquiry has been handled.

Recommendations included an overhaul of administrative procedures relating to the mass of information collated during the investigation. However, senior officers maintained no lines of inquiry had been affected.

Miss Lawrence was last seen walking near her Heworth Road home after finishing work on March 18, 2009. Police upgraded the inquiry to a murder investigation the following month.
